EMBRACING SELF-LOVE

There is no doubt that self-love is a journey, but if we want to share our full potential of loving others, it is vital that we develop a loving relationship with ourselves first 💕

So, I thought I would share a short guide to some self-love and self-care practices 💗

Firstly, to develop self-love, it is useful to consider the Six Types of Self-Care:

• Physical - Keeping your Body Healthy • Emotional - Keeping your Mind Happy • Spiritual - Nourish your Soul • Intellectual - Expand your Knowledge • Social - Connecting with Others • Sensory - Connect with your Senses

So, considering these, I have listed one way for each of the six to practice self-care:

• Go for a Walk or do some Yoga 🧘‍♀️

Even a short walk or the gentlest of yoga flows, anything that gets your body moving is fundamental to self-love - the release of endorphins provided by exercise can help lift our mood & make us feel much better!

• Writing Affirmations, alongside practicing some Mindfulness & Meditation, of course!

Providing ourselves with positive daily affirmations about ourselves, whether they be written or used as a mantra during a short meditation, can help us to instill loving attitudes towards ourselves. Examples include… "I am worthy", or "My heart is peaceful & loving".

• Get some Fresh Air 🌬️

Spending some time in the great outdoors is undoubtedly medicine for us all, something that, in recent times, we have all become much more aware of. Why not try an outdoor hobby, like gardening?

• Reading & Learning

Reading isn't just good for enhancing our knowledge, it is also a brilliant pastime for escaping the stresses of modern day life!

• Connect with a Loved One 💞

As humans, introverted or extroverted, connecting with others is part of our natural instinct, especially in the current times; even if it is just through a video call.

• Light a Candle, Drink some Herbal Tea, Take a Long Bath, Listen to Music

Connecting with our senses can help to bring us to the present moment and to live more mindfully… why not try practicing a little mindfulness by focusing your attention on the feeling of your breath as it travels in and out of your nose. If your mind drifts, bring your attention back to your breathing. Try to incorporate this into your daily life by focusing on what you are doing at the time, placing all your attention on whatever activity you are doing.

Be your own reason to smile!

Niamh 💗
