SOLSTICE SOUL SERENITY

Dec 20, 2020

Yuletide greetings, everyone! The Winter Solstice is upon us, and after this year, it is more important than ever that we use this time for reconnection and renewal. Although the seasonal holiday provides us with more time to intermingle with loved ones, albeit limited this year; it is also the perfect time for us to reengage with our own inner selves and challenge our inner saboteur. So, as we look forward to an upbeat and cheerful holiday season, I would love to share a short breathing technique we can all do, in the time available to us, that will allow us to feel restored and revitalised for the New Year ahead…

Just breathe…

Sometimes, it is just nice to take a moment for yourself! Focusing on your breath can really help with this! Pranayama is a yogic method of controlling the breath using certain breathing techniques. It helps to regulate the ‘prana’ or lifeforce of an individual. A simple breathing practice that is suitable for everyone, is abdominal breathing, this can help to calm both the mind & body…

  • To do this, start by lying down on your back. Place your hands on your stomach, and, as you inhale through your nose allow your stomach to expand… As you exhale, feel it sink…

  • Then, move your hands up to rest on your chest. As you inhale, feel your chest rise. As you exhale, feel it descend…

  • As you focus on your breathing, allow your mind to become still, letting any thoughts come and go like clouds in the sky. Feel yourself become relaxed and more soothed. You can repeat this for several breaths every day, for a little inner calm.

I hope that this will help you to reconnect a little with your inner self during this festive season.

Wishing you all a very safe and Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year,

Niamh x
